Float and wear: a permanent number, five bands
A skin's float is fixed for life. What the game calls its wear is only the label of the range that number falls inside.
Five bands, and Factory New stops at 0.07
Reach 0.07 and you are already in Minimal Wear, not at the top of Factory New. A finish keeps one float inside its personal range, and the game and the community turn that number into five names. The table lists the standard cuts.
| Wear | Float band |
|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00 up to, but not including, 0.07 |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07 up to 0.15 |
| Field-Tested | 0.15 up to 0.38 |
| Well-Worn | 0.38 up to 0.45 |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.45 through 1.00 |
A float cap can remove an entire wear
Many skins cover only part of the 0.00 to 1.00 scale. The AK-47 Redline spans 0.10 to 0.70. Factory New is therefore impossible, and Minimal Wear is as good as it gets. The AWP Asiimov opens at 0.18, which puts its cleanest copy in low Field-Tested. If someone asks a Factory New premium for either one, the listing has the wrong label or the buyer skipped the cap.
No Battle-Scarred M4A4 Howl exists, because the finish tops out at 0.40. Meanwhile the Glock-18 Fade and the Desert Eagle Blaze live nearly all their range in Factory New, with just a narrow Minimal Wear strip after 0.07. Their price barely responds to the wear name. Pattern drives it.
Where a cap only nicks a band, you get a thin slice of that wear. Take the AK-47 Fire Serpent: its Factory New lasts from 0.06 to 0.07. A narrow window makes such copies scarce. Rarity color plays no part.
Compare the float number, not the wear name
Inside one wear, the lower number tends to look cleaner, and on popular rifles buyers pay extra for the very start of a band. A Redline at 0.15 Field-Tested looks nearly like Minimal Wear for much less money, the classic value buy.
Downside: sellers near the top of Field-Tested, around 0.37, get overpaid by shoppers who sort by wear name and never read the number. Check the float before you pay.
Float databases do not agree on a few older caps. If two wikis argue over Well-Worn existing at all, believe the figure printed on the listing you are about to buy. Finishes where seed outweighs band are covered in the pattern guide.
Questions
What float is Factory New in CS2?
Any value from 0.00 up to 0.07, with 0.07 itself excluded. Exactly 0.07 is Minimal Wear.
Can every skin be Factory New?
No. When a finish starts at 0.07 or above, Factory New is out of reach. Common examples are the AK-47 Redline and AWP Asiimov.
